What is a BID?

A Business Improvement District (BID) is an organisation established and funded by businesses to improve the commercial environment in which they operate. As a not-for-profit organisation, every pound raised by a BID is reinvested directly into services and enhancements in the local area, such as safety, cleaning and environmental initiatives.

More than 300 BIDs currently operate across the UK. Every five years, businesses vote in a ballot to decide whether a BID should continue operating and delivering services for the area. If the ballot is successful, a levy becomes mandatory for all eligible businesses within the BID boundary for the next five-year term. This ensures that all businesses contribute to, and benefit from, the additional services and improvements delivered locally.

Who we are

New West End Company is the only organisation solely focused on driving the West End forward.

We keep our streets clean and safe, promote world-class experiences, provide trusted data and insight, and make the case for policies that support growth. Over the next five years, we are investing £60 million directly into the services that make the district stronger, safer and even more competitive.

Our 800+ members include some of the most respected global names in retail, leisure, hospitality, real estate and business. For them, the West End isn’t just an address – it’s a gateway for visitors, talent and investment. Our role is to keep it that way.
We were established more than two decades ago to achieve what no business or sector could accomplish alone – working hand in hand with Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police, the Mayor of London and Government to shape the district our members thrive in.

What we deliver

We deliver the essential services and strategic partnerships that underpin the West End’s daily operations and long-term success.

For over twenty years, we have worked hand-in-hand with three Mayors of London, five leaders of Westminster City Council, and five Metropolitan Police Commissioners. Together, we make the West End a great place to live, work and do business – and one of the most exciting destinations to visit.

Our goal is simple: ensure the West End remains thriving, competitive and future-ready.

Backed by a record £60 million programme of direct investment over the next five years, we are focused on delivering a safer, cleaner and more competitive West. We will do this through public realm transformation, world-class street management, bold destination marketing, and strategic advocacy and insight.

Districts

Our BID area spans 125 Streets across the West End, anchored by Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street, and the surrounding areas of East Mayfair, North Mayfair and North Oxford Street.
