Generated in media coverage for Christmas campaigns on Oxford Street and Bond Street, reinforcing the West End’s status as the ultimate festive destination.
Our people are committed to shaping the future of this iconic district, ensuring it remains a vibrant, inclusive, and world-leading destination for all who visit, work, and live here.
District annual turnover has grown from £3.9bn post-Covid to £9.3bn in 2024, thanks to targeted support and coordinated recovery efforts.
After much anticipation, the section of Oxford Street between Great Portland Street and Orchard Street has today become traffic-free.
Speaking on the milestone, our Chief Executive, Dee Corsi, said:
“Today marks one of the most significant days in the history of Oxford Street – a road that dates as far back as the Roman era and has been a centre for commerce for over 200 years.
“The pedestrianisation of Oxford Street presents a major opportunity to transform the visitor experience and attract more people to the West End. As businesses enter the crucial Christmas trading period, the focus must now be on getting the delivery right and ensuring that Oxford Street thrives as the nation’s high street.
“West End businesses are deeply invested in the project’s success, and the priorities are clear – ensuring the street is safe, clean, accessible and welcoming, while getting the practical details right.
“New West End Company will continue to work closely with our members, the Oxford Street Development Corporation, the Mayor, Westminster City Council and Transport for London to help realise Oxford Street’s potential and ensure its transformation benefits the wider West End.”
Our Chairman, Paul Williams, represented New West End Company at the official launch on John Lewis’ rooftop. He was next to Katie Morrison, Deputy CEO of the Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC); Martin Gafsen, Director of Property at John Lewis; Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London; Naomi Simcock, Chief Operations and Transformation Officer at John Lewis; and Nabeel Khan, CEO of the OSDC.
