These works supported the area through a period of significant change, including the arrival of the Elizabeth line, the opening of the new building and entrance to the Royal Academy of Arts on Burlington Gardens, and the regeneration of galleries and associated uses along Cork Street. Together, these improvements were designed to enhance the public realm across East Mayfair and strengthen the area’s position as the centre of the London art world.
The first phases focused on the renewal of the public realm along Savile Row, Cork Street and Cork Street Mews. In October 2021, works on Burlington Gardens were completed, transforming the area into a more civic and welcoming space through a shared-use approach for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.
In August 2023, improvements to Clifford Street and Old Burlington Street were also completed, introducing new footways and seating. The trees planted along Old Burlington Street form part of the Queen’s Green Canopy. The subsequent phase of works on Vigo Street opened to the public at the end of 2023.
