Security & Operations Talk: Lessons from the Lindt Cafe Siege
We will be joined by Andrew Brown, Chief Inspector (retd.) and internationally renowned negotiator with specialist knowledge and experience in dealing with kidnap for ransom; in designing conflict de-escalation skills for military & humanitarian operations and acting as an expert witness to judicial inquiries on the response to hostage taking.
A Fellow of the Chartered Management and Security Institutes, he has developed advanced negotiation and crisis leadership skills for major corporations, public bodies, Olympic coaches and continues to teach negotiation tactics to law enforcement agencies. As the Chief Security Officer for an INGO, he advises on safety & security for overseas humanitarian missions in some of the world’s most hostile environments on how to stay safe in educating, advocating, and accompanying the many refugees towards a better life.
At this session Andrew will be sharing the lessons learned in relation to communications and duty of care surrounding the hostages involved in the Lindt Café siege which occurred in Sydney in 2014.
