Set London free on Sundays

Sunday Times – Letters – THE West End and Knightsbridge are the twin jewels of London’s tourism industry, attracting shoppers from all over the world. Yet our biggest stores have their Sunday opening hours restricted and are forbidden from opening after 6pm.

Every Sunday we are forcing visitors to choose between spending money in our shops and visiting galleries, parks and museums. Surely we can give them the opportunity to do both?

As West End and Knightsbridge retailers we are urging parliament to modernise the law.

If we could keep the bigger stores in the West End and Knightsbridge open until 8pm on a Sunday, we could generate more than £260m of additional income as well as creating the equivalent of 2,000 full-time jobs.
