On Tuesday 6 November, the Oxford Street Christmas Lights were switched with a brand new format that replaced the traditional switch on show with a surprise and delight moment at Oxford Circus. Joy Jesters and a brass band momentarily stopped the traffic at the Circus to perform a Christmas medley.
Londoners and visitors were treated to an evening of performances from a host of music artists in our top stores. 2018 Mercury Prize nominee Novelist was in JD Sports, R&B powerhouse Kara Marni performed in Tezenis, singer-songwriter Ray BLK performed at Nike and Isaac Waddington sang at Uniqlo. Capital XTRA presenters Yinka Bokinni and Robert Bruce did DJ sets ahead of each performance.
Over 90 brands took part in the special shopping evening, offering customers festive experiences and discounts as well as unique gift with purchases, showcasing the variety and breadth of Christmas shopping across the street.
As one of the most highly anticipated Christmas events in the capital, the Oxford Street Christmas Lights Switch On generated a wealth of media coverage both leading up to the event and on the night itself. this included pre-coverage from Time Out, Evening Standard, Metro and Visit London before the event and on the night coverage live from BBC London, London Live (see below). The following day This Morning included a clip of the switch on on their show and so far The Sun has also covered the new event format.
