BALLET SUPERSTAR DARCEY BUSSELL TO TURN ON REGENT STREET’S BRAND NEW CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SPONSORED BY JO MALONE LONDON
HOSTED BY CLASSIC FM PRESENTERS MYLEENE KLASS AND ALED JONES
Let the countdown to Christmas begin. On Sunday 15 November, the festive season officially starts when Darcey Bussell turns on ‘Timeless Elegance’, the brand new Regent Street Christmas Lights sponsored by Jo Malone London. This will be a glamorous evening to remember, a world-first brought to you by The Crown Estate, the Regent Street Association, Jo Malone London and Classic FM.
Hosted by Classic FM presenters Myleene Klass and Aled Jones, the star-studded show begins at 6pm.
The Strictly Come Dancing judge and former prima ballerina, currently storming the charts with her compilation album ‘The Darcey Bussell Ballet Collection’, will pull the switch at approximately 6.30pm to launch Christmas across the capital.
Darcey Bussell said: “I am honoured to be invited to switch on the world famous Regent Street Lights. It promises to be a spectacular evening as we celebrate the start of Christmas in London. A time to get together and to think of others.”
Myleene Klass said: “Classic FM is the home of Christmas music, so Aled and I are really looking forward to officially launching the festive season on one of the world’s most famous shopping streets. London, let the countdown begin!”
Setting the scene for a magical occasion, the cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will open the event, delivering a show-stopping performance of ‘Pure Imagination’. Fresh from her performance at the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony, British soprano Laura Wright, one of the biggest selling classical artists this decade, will sing a stunning rendition of ‘Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire’ and ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra.
Laura Wright said: “I’ve been so fortunate to have performed at many iconic musical and sporting events across the world, but to help start the countdown to Christmas in the heart of the world’s greatest city is a real honour.”
The show will continue with yet another internationally renowned classical music star. The British trumpet soloist and multi Classical BRIT Award winner Alison Balsom will take to the Regent Street stage to perform ‘Ding Dong Merrily On High’ and ‘The Way You Look Tonight’ with the Orchestra.
Alison Balsom said: “It’s a thrill to be involved with what has now become a British institution, and a festive day that celebrates London in all its glory.”
Conducted by Nicholas Dodd, the Philharmonia Orchestra will then perform a brand new piece of music created by Pierre Mussche from Musicom in collaboration with acclaimed lighting designers Koert Vermeulen and Julie Boniche from ACT Lighting Design. The piece has been exclusively written for the Regent Street Christmas Lights switch-on and will set the scene for an enchanting occasion.
As the Philharmonia Orchestra plays, the live music will create a magical immersive experience, which will lead up to the switch-on moment. The lights will gradually move and sparkle in time with the music and for the first time, Regent Street’s Christmas Lights will feature video animations and projections. The unique and dazzling elements create a golden way that will astonish visitors.
Koert Vermeulen, ACT Lighting Design said: “We wanted to sculpt time, to offer it as a gift – the genuine luxury of watching the time as it goes by. We encourage people to rediscover this festive season with a new artistic perspective.”
Annie Walker, Director of the Regent Street Association said: ” We’re delighted to announce our new partnership with Classic FM, Jo Malone London and ACT Lighting Design for the Regent Street Christmas Lights. The Regent Street annual switch-on is the highlight of our year, marking the start of the festive season in the West End. It’s been an exciting year with fantastic retailers joining the shopping street, including fragrance brand Jo Malone London and more flagship stores set to open in 2016.”
On the day of the switch-on from 12 noon there will be a variety of performances on smaller stages along Regent Street for all the family to enjoy. Shoppers will be treated to a traffic-free Regent Street on the day making Christmas shopping a pleasure; the perfect opportunity to visit Jo Malone London’s newly launched Global Flagship at 101 Regent Street.
