CEO Recap of MIPIM 2017 – Day 1

New West End Company attends MIPIM 2017 discussing how we are operating as active delivery partner in developments across the district, partnering with Transport for London (TfL) and Westminster City Council (WCC).

Yesterday marked the first day of MIPIM 2017 and our Chairman, Sir Peter Rogers and I are in Cannes representing our members at this pivotal conference in the real estate sector’s calendar. We are proud to partner with City & Westminster Property Associations (CPA) (WPA), West End Partnership (WEP) and The Northbank BID to promote the continual efforts made to improve business conditions and retail opportunities for occupiers in the West End. This collaboration is important to the future of the area as many of the WPA, CPA and WEP Board Members are also our members and present in neighbouring Northbank, allowing us to align and work towards shared goals for the district’s future.

With over 23,000 delegates from 90 different countries attending MIPIM this year, we are truly placing London’s West End front and centre on the world’s stage and for good reason. The West End is going through an exciting and active period with the Elizabeth line (Crossrail) opening next year, creating numerous public realm opportunities across the district. New West End Company has been an integral part of helping these developments come to fruition, which is why we’re using this time at MIPIM to highlight these transformational advances. Yesterday, I discussed such changes on the Placemaking and Public Realm panel – The ingredients of Place – alongside Cllr Robert Davis of Westminster City Council, Polly Plunket at Broadgate Estates, Jamie Webb of Benoy and Dan Hamner at CBRE, all chaired by the brilliant Lisa Taylor, Chief Executive of Future of London. Be sure to follow @newwestend on Twitter and Periscope to playback the session for yourself – I discuss how the Bond Street placemaking and public realm works will create a new Front Door to the West End.

Also, we attended the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (LCCI) Presidential Reception with Tony Pidgley of Berkeley Group and Jules Pipe the Deputy Mayor of Planning, Regeneration and Skills, where we presented how the West End is evolving and prepared for the extra 60 million visitors the Elizabeth line will bring. The opportunities MIPIM creates to meet with leaders in one place at one time is the ideal landscape for New West End Company to advocate for the goals and ambitions of our members – the retailers and property owners in the district.
