CEO October update

In October New West End Company has represented West End businesses at the Labour and Conservative Party Conferences and we have responded on behalf of member to the Mayor’s Transport Strategy consultation.

We are working hard preparing for the key Christmas trading period with marketing to drive high value customers, enhanced street management and installing Christmas Lights across our district. We have also been meeting many members finalising our business plan ahead of our launch next month and occupier renewal ballot later this year.

Party Conferences

Last week New West End Company attended the Labour Party Conference where we hosted a private lunch on ‘International Tourism, Winning the Brexit Bonus’ with the London Deputy Mayor for Business, Rajesh Agrawal, as the key guest, together with London business leaders including the CEO of Heathrow Airport, the Managing Director of Global Blue and our members including John Lewis Partnership, The Crown Estate and Longchamp.

This week at the Conservative Party Conference our Chairman Sir Peter Rogers and I hosted a similar private lunch with the Tourism Minister, John Glenn MP as our key guest and attendees including the co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Best Brexit John Penrose MP, senior Westminster City Councillors and London business leaders.

We partnered with Westminster City Council to speak at two fringe events on air quality and the West End economy. I also had the chance to raise business rates reform with the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Rt Hon. Greg Clark MP. The conferences generated many useful networking opportunities to promote the West End growth agenda with local, London and national policymakers. To read my full conference report click here.

Mayor Strategy Responses

The consultation has just closed on the Mayor of London’s Transport Strategy. On behalf of our 600 members, New West End Company submitted a response to this highlighting key issues for the West End: air quality, traffic reduction and the transformation of Oxford Street and the wider West End. We also joined with Inner London BIDs and Westminster BIDs to make a joint submissions on his Transport Strategy. Business Rates £19.6m Relief Fund for West End Businesses

Your business may be eligible for rebates from Westminster City Council’s £19.6 million business rates discretionary relief fund, launched last month. New West End Company set up a special application service in partnership with rating experts Gerald Eve to assist members with their applications for the funding. We urge all members to make a bid; for more details on how to do this click here.
