Yesterday, our second and last day of MIPIM, presented us with even more opportunities to champion and educate other delegates on our initiatives to transform London’s West End, such as the varied preparations for Crossrail – from public realm and placemaking improvements to developing new spaces in the West End for the additional visitors, like St Giles. A key objective to our participation in MIPIM this year took place today as we hosted a presentation, “Welcome to the new West End”. The event included our members and London leaders who supported discussions on our role in the multi-million-pound investment making the West End ready for Crossrail.
We are proud and active facilitators of positive change in the West End, with the focus that all endeavours will be profitable and scalable for our retailers and members. Our Chairman discussed these activities and initiatives with other guest speakers on London’s exhibition stand – available to watch here.
It was promising to see the Department of International Trade (DIT) at MIPIM for the first time this year. This move supports the Mayor of London’s campaign #LondonIsOpen – promoting entry for global businesses to the UK – and our efforts to drive investment to the area. In collaboration with our guest speakers, we have been championing that now is the time to invest in the West End, positioning it as the world’s top shopping district. Reinforcing this claim is the introduction of the Elizabeth line (Crossrail) next year that will make the West End only 30 minutes away from Heathrow Airport and public realm works will provide retailers with the best showroom for their brands.
We ended our second and last full day of MIPIM 2017 around the Property Week table learning from some of the most influential leaders in UK property and sharing our active role in the innovative developments in our district, like Bond Street’s public realm regeneration and the introduction of the Elizabeth line. It was an enlightening evening to discuss the varied opportunities and challenges across the country.
As expected, MIPIM has flown by. Attending multiple meetings, panels and presentations to advocate New West End Company’s active delivery and participation in major developments in the West End has been an enriching experience. Although events like this are the exception and not the rule in our calendars, we attended MIPIM to promote the change occurring in the West End due to Crossrail, public realm and placemaking works and investment. I am confident we achieved this and look forward to meeting with Northbank BID today for my last morning at MIPIM before returning to the West End.
